Great opportunity to help us support the IOD Work Shadowing Scheme 2017
Posted on 24/04/17Our work with the IOD Work Shadowing Scheme 2017
Shelley Kendrick is the Chair of the IoD Work Shadow Scheme which allows Sixth Form students to spend one week ‘shadowing’ a director or senior manager; usually during the summer break. The scheme is kindly sponsored by KPMG and supported by the team at Skills Jersey.
We can’t arrange for students to shadow Richard Branson ...
... But there are plenty of local business leaders who will let students sit alongside them for 5 days – attending meetings and getting the inside track on what it takes to lead in any organisation.
If students are intending to become a doctor, think of what they can talk about at interview for medical school if they have shadowed a senior professional at Health & Social Services, a potential account or law student shadowing a Partner or an environmentalist student shadowing the CEO of Jersey Zoo!
The selection process is rigorous with students competing for places at every stage. They are required to submit a formal application letter accompanied by their CV which will be assessed by a panel of professional business representatives.
All students are interviewed and receive feedback on their personal presentation and application paperwork. Only those students, considered suitable by the panels are recommended to shadow.
Feedback on the scheme from both directors and students has been overwhelmingly positive!
If you are a business leader interested in getting involved as a mentor, or perhaps you’re a parent and your 6th former hasn’t heard about the scheme, please get in touch. There is a cash prize for the top three winning reports submitted!
Application deadline is the end of April so you’ll need to be quick!
